# Getting Started

The setup wizard is the quickest way to get a working form on your site. You answer two or three simple questions, pick a ready-made form, and CraftForms builds everything for you: the form, the email you receive when someone fills it in, and (if you want) the page it appears on.

You don't need any technical knowledge. It takes about two minutes, and you can change anything afterwards.

**What you'll end up with:**

* A working form, already filled with sensible fields and wording
* A copy of every submission saved in WordPress, plus an email to you each time someone sends the form
* Optionally: a nicely designed notification email, a PDF document (like an invoice or a ticket), and a draft page with the form already on it

***

### How to open the wizard <a href="#how-to-open-the-wizard" id="how-to-open-the-wizard"></a>

The wizard opens by itself the first time you activate CraftForms.

To open it later, go to **CraftForms → Getting Started** in the WordPress menu on the left.

At the top of the wizard you'll see your progress: **What it does → Where it runs → Starter**. Each step gets a tick when it's done.

***

### Step 1: What do you want your form to do? <a href="#step-1-what-do-you-want-your-form-to-do" id="step-1-what-do-you-want-your-form-to-do"></a>

Pick the card that's closest to what you need. Don't worry about choosing perfectly. You can change everything later.

| Card | Choose it if you want to… |
| -------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Get enquiries & leads** | Receive contact messages, quote requests or sign-ups by email |
| **Take bookings** | Let people book rooms, rentals, tours or appointments, with real availability |
| **Sell tickets & registrations** | Sell event tickets or collect RSVPs, with a limit on places |
| **Price custom products** | Show a live price while people choose sizes, materials or options |
| **Collect information** | Gather job applications, feedback, surveys or support requests |

Click a card, then click **Continue**.

**Rather start from an empty form?** Click **Skip, I'll start from a blank form** at the bottom.

***

### Step 2: Where will people fill it in? <a href="#step-2-where-will-people-fill-it-in" id="step-2-where-will-people-fill-it-in"></a>

This tells CraftForms where the form will live.

* **On this WordPress site.** The form goes on a page of this website. Choose this if you're not sure.
* **On another website or app.** Choose this if your visitors will fill in the form on a *different* website, for example one built with Webflow, Wix or Framer. CraftForms prepares the form for that and gives you a short piece of code to paste there later. *(PRO)*
* **On a WooCommerce product page.** Only shown when you chose **Price custom products** and your site runs a WooCommerce shop. Customers set up the product with the form and then check out as usual. *(PRO)*

Click an option, then click **Continue**.

<figure><img src="https://97821998-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FM2yV1foUgoGHBC66VBDw%2Fuploads%2FU7j2tQNH507dAFHgkdnu%2FSCR-20260924-ltvk.png?alt=media&amp;token=54c4dd12-418f-4920-85ad-0bb338b12764" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Don't see this step?** When there's only one sensible answer, the wizard skips the question and goes straight to step 3.

***

### Step 3: Pick a starting form <a href="#step-3-pick-a-starting-form" id="step-3-pick-a-starting-form"></a>

You now see a list of **starters**: ready-made forms that match your answers. Each one is a complete, working form that you can edit afterwards. Every card shows what you'll get, for example *Includes: Form · Catalog item · Notification email*.

<figure><img src="https://97821998-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FM2yV1foUgoGHBC66VBDw%2Fuploads%2FM6LBeKGxceHA3lHlC5Ik%2FSCR-20260924-luoy.png?alt=media&amp;token=1194850b-b427-4569-826f-7806b1599e31" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Too many to choose from?** Use the **Show starters for:** buttons above the list (for example *Rentals & tours* or *Accommodation*) to see only the starters for your kind of business. These buttons only appear when there are enough starters to be worth filtering.

**See a crown icon on a card?** That starter is part of CraftForms PRO. You can click it to see what it includes, and a **See pricing** button appears.

Click the starter you like. A box called **What we'll create** appears below the list.

#### What we'll create <a href="#what-well-create" id="what-well-create"></a>

This box lists everything the wizard is about to make. Some items are always included, and some you can switch on or off:

* **The form itself** (always included)
* **A catalog item** (only for booking and ticket starters, always included). This is where your prices, opening times and number of places are stored. Booking forms need one to know what's still available.
* **Branded notification email** (tick box). A nicely designed email instead of plain text. You can change how it looks at any time under **CraftForms → Email Templates**.
* **A PDF document attached to that email** (tick box, only for some starters). For example an invoice, a ticket or a booking confirmation, created from each submission. It needs the branded email above, because that's the email it's attached to.

Under the list you'll see a line like *"Every form also saves submissions and emails you a copy at <you@example.com>."* That's the address your notifications will go to.

<figure><img src="https://97821998-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FM2yV1foUgoGHBC66VBDw%2Fuploads%2F8S7ES7f5tHki2S06EVxL%2FSCR-20260924-luvt.png?alt=media&amp;token=0c4559db-e57f-46b6-b045-5dc70bc14ead" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### Where should the form appear? <a href="#where-should-the-form-appear" id="where-should-the-form-appear"></a>

If you chose **On this WordPress site** in step 2, you can also decide where the form goes:

* **On a new page.** The wizard creates a new page with the form on it. You can change the page title in the box. The page is saved as a **draft**, so nobody sees it until you publish it.
* **At the end of an existing page.** Pick one of your pages from the list and the form is added at the bottom. ⚠️ If that page is already published, the form shows up on your site straight away.
* **I'll add it myself.** Nothing is added to any page. You can place the form later with the CraftForms block in the page editor.

When you're happy, click the button at the bottom right. Its name depends on your starter: **Create form**, **Create booking setup** or **Create product**.

***

### Step 4: Your form is ready <a href="#step-4-your-form-is-ready" id="step-4-your-form-is-ready"></a>

After a few seconds you'll see **"Your … is ready"** with a list of everything that was created. Click any name in the list to open it.

If the form was put on a page, you'll see two buttons:

* **Preview** shows the page the way your visitors will see it.
* **Edit page** opens the page in the WordPress editor.

You may see **"Preparing the designs…"** for a moment. That's CraftForms finishing your email and PDF designs in the background. Just wait for the message to disappear.

#### Next steps <a href="#next-steps" id="next-steps"></a>

Below that is a short **Next steps** checklist. It only shows the steps that apply to your form. **Each step ticks itself** when you've done it, even if you do it in another browser tab. Come back to this screen and it updates.

Here's what each step means:

**Set your prices and availability** *(booking and ticket forms)* The catalog item starts with example prices and opening times. Click **Open the Catalog** and change them to match your business.

**Publish the page** *(if the wizard made a new page)* The page is still a draft. Click **Open the page**, check that everything looks right, and click **Publish** in the WordPress editor.

**Put it on your website** *(if you chose "On another website or app")* Click **Get the embed code**. Add the address of the website where the form should appear, copy the short code, and paste it into that website's page. Submissions from that website are already switched on.

**Add it to a page** *(if you chose "I'll add it myself")* Open any page in the WordPress editor, add the **CraftForms** block, and choose your form. For booking forms, also pick your catalog item in the block's **Linked Catalog Item** setting.

**Take payments (optional)** *(bookings, tickets and price calculators, PRO)* Want to charge a deposit or the full price? Click **Connect payments** to connect your own Stripe or PayPal account, then add a Payment block to the form. The money goes straight to you.

**Set the product price and publish it** *(WooCommerce product starters)* The wizard creates a draft product with a placeholder price of 1. Click **Open the product**, set the real price, check the connected form on the product's **CraftForms** tab, and publish.

**Make the form yours** Click **Edit the form** to change fields, labels and wording. In the form editor, the **Submit Actions** panel is where the notification email and saved submissions are set up.

***

### Doing it again <a href="#doing-it-again" id="doing-it-again"></a>

Want another form? Click **Start another setup** at the bottom of the finished screen, or open **CraftForms → Getting Started** again at any time. Each run creates a new, separate form, so your earlier forms are never changed.

To see all your forms, click **Go to all forms**.

***

### Common questions <a href="#common-questions" id="common-questions"></a>

**Where do I see what people sent?** Go to **CraftForms → Submissions**. Every form saves each submission there, even if an email doesn't arrive. Bookings and payments also appear under **CraftForms → Orders**.

**I added the form to the wrong page. How do I undo it?** Open that page in the WordPress editor and remove the form block, or restore an earlier version from the page's **Revisions**. WordPress saves a revision before the wizard adds the form.

**I'm not getting notification emails.** Emails go to the address shown in the **What we'll create** box, which is your site's admin email address. If emails don't arrive, check your spam folder first. WordPress sites often need an email sending service (SMTP) to deliver email reliably. You can add one under **CraftForms → SMTP Servers**.

**A starter says "your plan doesn't include" something.** Some starters include a file upload field or take payments, and not every plan includes those. Pick another starter or upgrade your plan.

**It says "No starter fits this combination yet."** There's no ready-made form for that particular combination of answers. Click **Back** and try a different option, or click **Start from a blank form** to build your own.

**Can I change the form after the wizard is done?** Yes, everything. The wizard only gives you a starting point. Your form, emails, PDF, prices and page can all be edited like anything else in CraftForms.
